This section presents data about government revenue.
The general government’s revenues consist of revenues from direct and indirect taxes, from social contributions, and from non-tax revenue (transfers and other revenue). The next graph presents the decomposition of revenues in these four categories.
Direct taxes consist of taxes on individual income, taxes on corporate profits, taxes on capital, and taxes on other sources of income. The next graph presents the decomposition of direct taxes and their evolution over time.
Indirect taxes consist of value added taxes, special consumption duties, taxes on land and buildings, taxes on pollution, and other indirect taxes. The next graph presents the decomposition of indirect taxes and their evolution over time.
Social contributions are collected from employees and employers for the purpose of funding pensions and non-pension (e.g. health or unemployment insurance) benefits.
