This section presents data on the population of Greece. It includes statistics on population demographics and household composition, offering a picture of the population structure. Additionally, it presents information on births and deaths, as well as data related to immigration, emigration, and the acquisition of Greek citizenship. Finally, a section on life expectancy presents data on the expected lifespan of the population.
The first graph presents the evolution of Greece's total population.
The median age is the age at the midpoint of the population, i.e. half of the population is older than the median age and half of the population is younger. The next graph presents the evolution of the median age of the total population, and separately for men and women.
Population change has two components: natural change and net migration. Natural change is the difference between births and deaths. Net migration is the difference between immigration (population moves into Greece) and emigration (population moves from Greece).
The next graph presents Greece's population change decomposed in natural change and net migration (plus statistical adjustments).
The next graph decomposes the natural change in the population into births and deaths.
The next graph decomposes net migration into immigration and emigration.
