Introduction

This section presents data about the supply, consumption, and prices of natural gas.

Supply and consumption

The first graph presents the evolution of monthly supply and consumption of natural gas since 2008.

The next graph presents the evolution of annual supply and consumption of natural gas since 1990.

After 2021, Eurostat’s monthly and annual data on Greece’s natural gas imports and exports diverge markedly. This reflects differences in recording methods: the monthly database (nrg_cb_gasm) records all physical cross-border gas flows, including transit and LNG re-exports, whereas the annual database (nrg_cb_gas) reports net imports for national energy balances and excludes gas that is subsequently re-exported. As Greece’s role as a natural gas hub in Southeast Europe expanded after 2021, imports and exports appear substantially higher in the monthly data. This difference does not affect the recording of domestic natural gas consumption which is consistent in the two datasets.

The next graph presents the breakdown of the consumption of natural gas by various users.

Imports and exports

The following chart presents imports and exports, as well as the trade balance for natural and manufactured gas, measured in value (euros).

Prices

The next graph presents the evolution of prices for household consumption of natural gas by consumption band.

The next graph presents the evolution of natural gas prices for industrial customers by consumption band.

The next graph presents the evolution of wholesale prices for natural gas.

The next graph presents the evolution of import prices for natural gas.
