Civil/Criminal Justice

Civil Courts adjudicate private disputes.

Criminal Courts are responsible for punishing crimes and enforcing measures provided by criminal laws.

Until 2024, the Magistrates' Courts and Misdemeanor Courts handled minor civil and criminal cases and have since been merged with Civil and Criminal Courts.

The Court of Cassation (Areios Pagos) is the supreme court for civil and criminal justice. It handles appeals against final decisions issued by civil and criminal courts.

Administrative Justice

Administrative Courts adjudicate disputes between the State and citizens.

The Council of State is the supreme administrative court.

Land Registries document property rights and transactions and Notarial Acts certify and validate legal agreements.
