Introduction

This section presents data about the resources that are available for healthcare provision. The resources include health personnel (e.g. doctors and nurses), medical facilities (e.g. hospitals and pharmacies), and medical equipment (e.g. computed tomography (CT) scanners).

Health personnel

Health personnel includes doctors (physicians), dentists, nurses, pharmacists, midwives, physiotherapists, and other caring personnel.

The first graph presents the absolute numbers and density per thousand population of health personnel.

The next graph presents the number of doctors and dentists across regions.

Health facilities

The next graph presents the evolution in the number of hospitals, separately by ownership structure (public or private), and by region.

The next graph presents the evolution in the number of hospital beds, separately by ownership structure of the hospital (public of private), and by region.

The next graph presents the number of pharmacies and wholesale drugstores.

Health equipment

The next graph presents data on the specialized medical equipment that is available for medical purposes. The equipment includes Computed Tomography (CT) scanners, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) units, Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scanners, Mammographs, radiation therapy equipment, and Gamma cameras.
