This section presents data about the unemployed and the underemployed.
If they satisfy some eligibility criteria, the unemployed have the right to receive unemployment benefits. The graph shows the evolution in the number of recipients of unemployment benefits and their composition in regular or seasonal recipients. Seasonal recipients are mostly employed in tourism.
Many employed workers report being underemployed, i.e. wishing to work more hours than they do. This is a measure of lack of access to employment that is not captured in the unemployment rate. The next graph presents the number of unemployed and underemployed.
The duration of unemployment is a key measure of the cost of being unemployed. The next graph presents the number of unemployed by the duration of their unemployment spell and, also, by whether they had worked in the past.
